If you're a Pakistani working or studying abroad — Dubai, Saudi, UK, US, Canada, Australia — and you've tried to watch Geo.tv or ARY's streaming portal from outside Pakistan, you've hit the geo-block. "This content is not available in your region." Pakistani local broadcasters lock most of their streaming to Pakistani IPs. Here's what works to stream Pakistani content abroad in 2026.
The platforms tested
- Geo.tv (Geo News + Geo Entertainment streaming)
- Hum.tv (Hum Network's streaming portal)
- ARY Digital (web + ARY ZAP app)
- A-Plus (A-Plus Entertainment)
- HBO Pakistan (HBO Max regional offering)
- Tapmad (Pakistani sports streaming)
Methodology
I tested from a US Comcast residential IP and a UK BT residential IP. For each VPN, I tried each platform with the VPN set to "Pakistan" servers. I tested at 8pm Pakistan time (peak load) and 3am Pakistan time (off-peak).
VPN-by-VPN results
| VPN | Geo.tv | Hum | ARY | A-Plus | Tapmad |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| NordVPN | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ |
| ExpressVPN | ✓ | ✓ | ✗ (intermittent) | ✓ | ✓ |
| Surfshark | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ~50% | ~70% |
| Namecheap VPN | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✓ | ✗ |
| Free / Tunnelbear free | ✓ (slow) | ~40% | ✗ | ✗ | ✗ |
NordVPN — best overall for Pakistani diaspora
NordVPN's Pakistan servers (multiple, in Karachi and Islamabad data centres) are the most reliable for streaming Pakistani content abroad. Every platform I tested worked first try. Speeds were 35–50 Mbps from US/UK to Pakistan server — enough for HD streaming.
Specific to Pakistan content: NordVPN's "Obfuscated servers" mode also works for users in countries with stricter VPN detection (Saudi Arabia, UAE corporate networks).
ExpressVPN — solid but not perfect for ARY
ExpressVPN's Pakistan servers worked for most platforms. ARY Digital was intermittent — about 70% of attempts loaded video, 30% got "content not available" despite the IP being correctly identified as Pakistan. The cause is unclear; ExpressVPN's IP range may overlap with one ARY has flagged.
Namecheap VPN — surprisingly good for the price
Namecheap VPN at roughly PKR 600/month (reseller) handled Geo, Hum, ARY, and A-Plus reliably. Tapmad blocked it — possibly because Tapmad does deeper IP-range checks. For non-sports Pakistani content, Namecheap is the budget pick.
Free VPNs — don't bother for Pakistani content
Most free VPNs don't have Pakistan servers at all. The few that do (TunnelBear, ProtonVPN free) have limited bandwidth that makes streaming impractical. Even when the geo-check passes, video buffers every 30 seconds.
The Tapmad-specific quirk
Tapmad (Pakistani sports streaming) does deeper IP-range checks than other platforms. They specifically maintain a list of known data-centre IP ranges and reject those even if they geolocate to Pakistan. NordVPN has the cleanest residential-style IPs that pass these checks; most other VPNs fail.
For Pakistani cricket fans abroad: NordVPN is the safe bet. If you're paying specifically for cricket access, the budget VPN saving isn't worth the failed-to-load Friday matches.
Reverse direction: streaming international content from Pakistan
The reverse problem is also real — accessing Netflix US, Disney+, BBC iPlayer from inside Pakistan. We covered that in our NordVPN vs ExpressVPN vs Surfshark speed test.
Pricing in PKR (May 2026, 1-year plans)
| VPN | Direct PKR/month | Reseller PKR/month |
|---|---|---|
| NordVPN 1-year | ~1,500 | ~700 |
| ExpressVPN 1-year | ~1,900 | limited reseller |
| Surfshark 1-year | ~1,000 | ~500 |
| Namecheap VPN 1-year | ~700 | ~400 |
What I'd pay for as a Pakistani abroad
Cricket fan: NordVPN. Tapmad needs the residential IPs.
Hum/ARY/Geo drama watcher: Namecheap VPN at reseller pricing — works for everything except Tapmad.
Mixed (Pakistani + international content) viewer: NordVPN. Single subscription handles both directions reliably.
Budget: Namecheap VPN. Skips sports but otherwise covers 90% of Pakistani content.
Other tips for Pakistani diaspora streaming
- Reload the page after VPN-connect. If you connect VPN after loading the platform, the platform may have cached your real IP. Reload after VPN-on.
- Clear cookies if you keep getting blocked. Some platforms set a "you're abroad" cookie that persists after VPN.
- Use the platform's mobile app via VPN. Apps sometimes do less aggressive IP-checking than web. Worth trying if the website blocks you.
- Check our VPN content from inside Pakistan. VPN + Spotify gotchas explains why some content services downgrade VPN-routed accounts.
Bottom line
NordVPN is the safest single-subscription answer for Pakistani diaspora streaming. Namecheap VPN is the budget pick if you don't need sports. Browse all VPN options.
